#WhatKidsSay : MAKE: IT \ CODE: IT Holiday Camp

The Time at MAKE: IT \ CODE: IT Holiday Camp

#WhatKidsSay

Presented by Today Got Class, in partnership with Make and KidsCode.  Make: IT \ Code: IT Tech Holiday Camp teaches children Design thinking, Coding and Integrating both skill-sets to Build a fully functional remote control car.

By Ethan Lim, 10 years old

“I attended the best holiday camp ever. On the first day, we learnt how to build a cardboard car from scratch. We had a competition to race our cardboard car. I thought my car went really far but I did not win. My competitor won by a slight margin. My brother won and received a few packs of gummy bear. He was on cloud nine when he won.

On the second day, we learn coding using microbit. I learnt many things such as programming the microbit to play scissors, paper, stone. I was amazed that the small board could do so many things.

On the last day, we were split into teams to compete against each other. The task was to use microbit to enable our cardboard cars to function. We were given many challenges such as steering the car upslope. It was fun! My team came in second.

After lunch, we went to a leading US Consumer Tech Company (Editor’s note: Company has requested for us not to publish the name) for a field trip. The holiday camp was very interesting. I hope I could go for another camp like this.”

“I love my time at Make it Code It. First, I didn’t know what to do with the cardboard, straw, and a balloon, rubber band and ruler. When my teacher Chee Wee taught me what to do. We were supposed to build a car. After we build one part of the car, Teacher Chee Wee showed us that it has two ways to race. The both races are, first use the rubber band and shoot and blow a balloon. We had a competition on both race. The most amazing thing is that I won the balloon race. I got reward seven gummy bears.’
